The hotel was founded in December 2003 and takes its name from the 13 sea turtles that arrived on the beach the night before its opening — a moment that symbolized the sense of home and belonging the property was built to offer.

Isla Holbox is accessible from Cancun International Airport. The journey involves ground transportation to the port town of Chiquila (approximately 2 hours), followed by a 30-minute ferry crossing. Ferries operate every 30 minutes from 6:00 AM to 9:30 PM. Casa Las Tortugas offers comprehensive door-to-door transfer packages starting at $330 USD for two people, which include airport meet-and-greet, air-conditioned transport, ferry tickets, and a golf-cart taxi to the hotel.
